Metal Plate Bending Machines Workings
There are two main types of plate bending machines: 4 roll plate bending machine and 3 roll plate bending machine. Simple plate bending machines are made out of three rollers. These arranged in a triangle configuration. The sheet metal is then guided between the plate bending rolls. The further the middle roller is driven towards the other two, the more the sheet metal will bend. The sheet metal is then permanently bent after being driven back and forth between the rollers.
Plate bending machines for spatial forming move the upper roller at an angle. Through having this roller at an angle, conical sheet metal products can be produced. For the manufacturing of large radii, a plate bending machine can be equipped with an additional, upper guide. This holds the sheet metal at the desired height and prevents it from snapping or accidentally wrapping around the metal bending machine.
Used of plate bending machines
Metal plate bending machines have a wide range of applications for handwork and in industry. Climate specialist companies, stove manufacturers, ventilation specialists and façade builders are common users of plate bending equipment. Plate bending machines are commonly used for manufacturing covers, extraction systems or screens. Particularly powerful plate bending machines are used for manufacturing pipes, focusing particularly on producing long-seamed, welded steel tubes.
A metal plate bending machine is either manually or electrically (in this case, with hydraulic support) operated. Small plate bending machines for workshops have a hand wheel and a lifting system. These simple machines have more and more features up to the large bending machines, like a CNC plate bending machine, used in the tube and pipe industries.
Plate bending machines should only be operated under supervision. Every piece of sheet metal is individually guided into the plate bending machine and then taken out. The thicker and bigger the sheet metal is, the harder the bending process. It is only possible to achieve good, permanent results with a lot of experience.
